Dive bar websites don't have flash. They usually consist of broken HTML tags and misspellings.
Sexy shilouettes in purple and pink? Where are grungy poorly shaven people looking for hard liquor?
I get the feeling from the music that you could order a "cosmo" there without being laughed at by the bartender.

if you think THAT'S corny, wait until you see the beautifully 1981 neon "aunt charlie's" sign behind the bar. the place is truly amazing. you have to go there, if only to witness the salaciousness that is "the $60,000 silicone wonder".....
if you think i'm making this up, i DARE you to go there on a friday night. hell, ANY night....the place is a like one of those candy diamond rings in the sea of guttripe that is the tenderloin district.....

oh BTW I'm checking out this new super secret Speakeasy tonight, I will report back tomorrow. Probably not very dive bar-ish BUT I'm very intrigued. You have to make a reservation to go! and tell them how many people and how long you plan to stay there! -

Mon, September 11, 2006 - 6:25 PMYou managed to make a reservation at Bourbon and Branch? When I tried, their web site offered me a time after midnight and then denied that it was available. The address is listed on Citysearch, so we just went along and rang the doorbell. Contrary to what they say on the web site, there doesn't seem to be a password (unless it's "what password?" or "no" when they ask if you have a reservation).
It's pretentious, but quite a nice space. Definitely not a dive bar, though. -

Mon, September 11, 2006 - 10:20 PMyeah I got in no problem! I put in 7:30 on Thursday and got confirmation back right away. Maybe it's best to go on the earlier side, and on a weeknight? it is a bit on the pretentious side, but I will say the staff (and especially our server) were very nice and helpful with picking out cocktails since I was just a *tad* overwhelmed with the selection. When we got there I kept hitting the button but then noticed the door was ajar so I just opened it. After we got in though they closed and locked the door. Considering the riff raff in that hood, probably a good thing!

yelp? whine.com is more like it. fuck web two-point-HELL-NO too. i have a good friend who works at a coffeehouse and she gets yelp posters who come in, act nice to her face, and whinge about how their latte didn't have enough foam on yelp, her boss reads it 'cos he's out of the web-dot-com age range (mid-50's) and thinks he needs to take it seriously. then he asks her nicely about it....with the of course unspoken concern "maybe you should tone down the sass a bit?" yelp can go pound sand.
it's BULLSHIT! all smoke, no fire. grrrrrrrrrrr.....
